Update – Official Announcement Regarding Ban on Entry by Non-Citizens/Non-Residents
22 December 2020
Dear Clients and Colleagues,
In follow up to our previous update – effective of yesterday (22 December 2020) until 4 January 2021, Israel is closing its borders to entry by individuals who are not Israeli citizens or residents. Relevantly, there are multiple exceptions, including for foreign experts; however, we were informed that the government will permit case-by-case exceptions for foreign experts only in extraordinary circumstances. There are also other exceptions that, for the most part, do not impact employers.
Each request must be reviewed and approved by the relevant Ministry, the Ministry of Health and the Population & Immigration Authority’s department handling foreign workers. In addition, any individual admitted under one of the exceptions may need to enter a “quarantine hotel” for a period of mandatory isolation.
Please let us know if you have questions or need advice on issues related to this measure.
