Gaming partner, Liran Barak, shares his overview of the legislative and regulatory framework relating to gambling in the Israeli chapter of the recent “Chambers Global Practice Guide”.
“The approach towards gambling in Israel currently is, and always was, a highly conservative one. This is the result of an intersection of both religious and socialist values, which have led to Israel placing a blanket ban on gambling services in Israel, both land-based and online……..Israeli courts also had a role in shaping the gambling-related regulatory regime in Israel. One prominent example is the way courts have broadened the scope of the prohibitions set in the Penal Law by ruling that online gambling and betting being made available to Israeli consumers would violate Israeli law”
