Dr. Roy Schöndorf joins Herzog as a Partner and will be responsible for a range of international and government related matters.

Dr. Schöndorf began his legal career in the Israel Defense Force’s International Law Department, where he acted as a legal adviser in Israel’s negotiations with regional countries. Following his military service, Dr. Schöndorf completed a doctorate in law (JSD) at New York University, and worked for a number of years in international arbitration and white collar crime at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP in New York.

On his return to Israel, Dr. Schöndorf joined the State Attorney’s Office, where he established and led the Department for Special Affairs (International Law), tasked with defending the State of Israel in legal proceedings around the world and in the international legal arena. In this role, Dr. Schöndorf managed legal cases on behalf the State of Israel in multiple jurisdictions worldwide.

On promotion to Deputy Attorney General (International Law), Dr. Schöndorf was responsible for providing legal advice on a number of high-profile, complex and sensitive issues of state, including the ‘Abraham Accords’, the International Criminal Court, international arbitration, criminal and civil matters in foreign jurisdictions, the maritime agreement with Lebanon, international regulation in the field of cyber, international trade, investment and commerce agreements, and more. Most recently, Dr. Schöndorf was one of the three final candidates for the position of Attorney General.
