Practical risks of US controls on import and export of advanced chips and AI model weights for Israeli companies
28 April 2025
Herzog, Fox & Neeman law firm and the Israel-America Chamber of Commerce are pleased to host an important webinar concerning upcoming U.S export control changes which could have significant and practical implications for Israeli companies. U.S. export controls and trade sanctions expert, Tahlia Townsend, Partner (Wiggin & Dana law firm, Washington), will discuss the practical risks for Israeli companies and multi-nationals operating in Israel, arising from updates to be implemented by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) regulations creating a worldwide licensing requirement for advanced chips and first-ever export controls on artificial intelligence (AI) model weights. Compliance changes due to enter into force on 13th May 2025.
Together we will analyze how these restrictions will affect Israeli companies’ ability to obtain related GPUs/ICs (e.g. applicability of licensing exemptions in certain circumstances, or otherwise whether US manufacturers will require a license to export to an Israeli company), and the likely effects upon Israeli companies’ supply chains, business collaborations and subsequent export to other countries. We will also discuss how each company should check whether and how the regulation will affect its specific business operations and begin updating its supply chain and internal compliance processes.
